Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, pursuant to subsections 2(1) and (2) of the Agricultural Products Marketing Act, hereby makes the annexed Saskatchewan Alfalfa Seed Order.DefinitionsThe definitions in this section apply in this Order.alfalfa seed means the seed produced from the alfalfa plant, including medicago sativa, medicago media and medicago falcata. (semence de luzerne)Commission means the Saskatchewan Alfalfa Seed Producers Development Commission. (Commission)Plan means the Saskatchewan Alfalfa Seed Producers Development Plan Regulations, established by Order in Council 513/1997 of the Lieutenant Governor in Council of Saskatchewan on July 23, 1997 as amended from time to time, pursuant to The Agri-Food Act of Saskatchewan. (Programme)Interprovincial and Export TradeThe Commission is hereby authorized to regulate the marketing of alfalfa seed in interprovincial and export trade, and for those purposes may, with respect to persons and property situated within the province of Saskatchewan, exercise all or any powers like the powers exercisable by it in relation to the marketing of alfalfa seed locally within that province under section 7 of the Plan.Levies or ChargesThe Commission may, in relation to the powers granted to it by section 2,fix, impose and collect levies or charges from persons referred to in section 2 who are engaged in the production or marketing of alfalfa seed and, for that purpose, classify those persons into groups and fix the levies or charges payable by the members of the different groups in different amounts; anduse the levies or charges for the purposes of the Commission, including the creation of reserves.Coming into ForceThis Order comes into force on the day on which it is registered.
