title</MarginalNote><Label>1</Label><Text>This Act may be cited as the <XRefExternal reference-type="act" link="C-21.1">Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal Act</XRefExternal>.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:lastAmendedDate="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73704" lims:id="73704"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73705" lims:id="73705">Definition of "Minister"</MarginalNote><Label>2</Label><Text>In this Act, <DefinedTermEn>Minister</DefinedTermEn> means the Minister of National Defence.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:lastAmendedDate="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73706" lims:id="73706"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73707" lims:id="73707">Design of Medal</MarginalNote><Label>3</Label><Text>The Governor in Council may determine the design of the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal and its associated ribbon.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:lastAmendedDate="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73708" lims:id="73708"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73709" lims:id="73709">Purpose and award of Medal</MarginalNote><Label>4</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73710" lims:id="73710"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The Medal shall represent the peacekeeping service performed with a force under the auspices of the United Nations, or with another international force, and may be awarded by the Governor in Council to any Canadian citizen who serves at the initiative, by the nomination or with the agreement of the Government of Canada, with such a force.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73711" lims:id="73711"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73712" lims:id="73712">Single award</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>The Medal shall not be awarded twice to the same person.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73713" lims:id="73713"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73714" lims:id="73714">Excluded persons</MarginalNote><Label>(3)</Label><Text>The Medal shall not be awarded to a person within a class of persons excluded by the regulations.</Text></Subsection></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:lastAmendedDate="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73715" lims:id="73715"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73716" lims:id="73716">Posthumous award</MarginalNote><Label>5</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73717" lims:id="73717"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The Medal may be awarded posthumously.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73718" lims:id="73718"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73719" lims:id="73719">Next of kin</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>Where a Medal is awarded posthumously, it shall be presented to the next of kin specified by the person in whose name it is awarded or, if that next of kin is deceased or cannot be readily located, to the person best suited, in the opinion of the Minister, to receive it.</Text></Subsection></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:lastAmendedDate="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73720" lims:id="73720"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73721" lims:id="73721">Wearing of Medal</MarginalNote><Label>6</Label><Text>The Medal shall be worn in accordance with the Canadian Order of Precedence of Orders, Decorations and Medals.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2005-04-04" lims:lastAmendedDate="2005-04-04" lims:fid="73722" lims:id="73722"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2005-04-04" lims:fid="73723" lims:id="73723">Nomination by Minister</MarginalNote><Label>7</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2005-04-04" lims:fid="73724" lims:id="73724"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The Minister shall nominate for award of the Medal those persons who are qualified and who are members or former members of the Canadian Forces.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2005-04-04" lims:fid="73725" lims:id="73725"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2005-04-04" lims:fid="73726" lims:id="73726">Nomination by Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>The Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness shall nominate for award of the Medal those persons who are qualified and who are members or former members of a Canadian police force.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2005-04-04" lims:fid="73727" lims:id="73727"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2005-04-04" lims:fid="73728" lims:id="73728">Nomination by another Minister</MarginalNote><Label>(3)</Label><Text>Any minister of the Crown may nominate for award of the Medal any person who is qualified and who is serving under the administration of the minister of the Crown or in a program under the administration of the minister of the lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73732" lims:id="73732">Regulations</MarginalNote><Label>8</Label><Text>The Governor in Council may make regulations</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73733" lims:id="73733"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>respecting the qualifications of persons or classes of persons who may be awarded the Medal;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73734" lims:id="73734"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>prescribing classes of persons who are excluded from entitlement to a Medal; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2002-12-31" lims:fid="73735" lims:id="73735"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>prescribing persons who may be considered as next of exercise all powers and authorities of Her Majesty in respect of the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal. </Text></Section></Body></Statute>
