His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Health, pursuant to section 37 of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Acta, makes the annexed Mattresses Regulations.S.C. 2010, c. 21InterpretationDefinition of mattressIn these Regulations, mattress means an item that is intended, promoted or normally used for the purpose of being slept on that contains resilient material enclosed within a ticking, but does not includea mattress pad;an infant multi-use pad;any part of an article of upholstered furniture that may also be used for the purpose of being slept on that is not a separate mattress;a crib, cradle or bassinet mattress; anda one-of-a-kind prescription mattress.RequirementCombustion resistanceWhen a mattress is tested in accordance with the Canadian General Standards Board standard CAN/CGSB-4.2 No. 27.7-2013, entitled Textile test methods — Combustion resistance of mattresses — Cigarette test, published in April 2013, melting or charring of the surface that extends more than 50 mm in any horizontal direction from the nearest point of the original location of the test cigarette, or continuing combustion in the mattress assembly 10 minutes after the cigarette has extinguished, must not be exhibited in more than one test specimen.Repeal[Repeal]Coming into ForceRegistrationThese Regulations come into force on the day on which they are registered.
