Mexico Steel Goods Remission Order

Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Finance, pursuant to section 115Footnote a of the Customs TariffFootnote b, makes the annexed Mexico Steel Goods Remission Order.

Marginal note:Remission

 Subject to section 2, remission is granted of the surtax paid under the Order Imposing a Surtax on the Importation of Certain Steel Goods, as it read on October 25, 2018, in respect of goods of classes 3 and 7 of the schedule to that Order originating in Mexico.

Marginal note:Conditions

 The remission is granted if

  • (a) the goods referred to in section 1 were imported into Canada on or after October 25, 2018 and before the day on which this Order comes into force;

  • (b) an import permit was issued for the goods under the Export and Import Permits Act in respect of item 82 of the Import Control List and is valid at the time at which the claim for remission is made;

  • (c) the importer makes a claim for remission in writing to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness within a period of 200 days beginning on October 25, 2018; and

  • (d) the claim is supported by evidence that the import permit issued in respect of the goods is valid at the time at which the claim for remission is made and includes the permit number.

Marginal note:Coming into force

 This Order comes into force on February 2, 2019, but if it is registered after that day, it comes into force on the day on which it is registered.
