His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Finance, pursuant to section 115 of the Customs TariffFootnote a, hereby makes the annexed Alpine Joe Sportswear Remission Order, 1998.

Interpretation
1 In this Order, specified fabrics means 4-thread twill fabrics, 109.2 cm (43 in.) width, containing 60% or more by weight of polyester staple fibres, 30% or more by weight of cotton and 5% or more by weight of elastomeric monofilaments, having in the warp 423 yarns or more but not exceeding 433 yarns per 10 cm (172 decitex per single yarn) and in the weft 252 yarns or more but not exceeding 262 yarns per 10 cm (316 decitex per single yarn), weighing less than 300 g/m2, of subheading No. 5514.22.
Remission
2 Subject to section 3, remission is hereby granted to Alpine Joe Sportswear Ltd., Vancouver, of the customs duties paid or payable under the Customs Tariff on specified fabrics up to an annual quantity limit of 13,716 metres (15,000 linear yards).
Conditions
3 The remission is granted pursuant to section 2 on condition that:
(a) the specified fabrics are used by Alpine Joe Sportswear in the manufacture of uniform or hiking pants and shorts or bicycle touring shorts;
(b) the specified fabrics are imported during the period beginning on January 1, 1997 and ending on December 31, 2002; and
(c) a claim for remission is made to the Minister of National Revenue within two years of the date of importation.
Coming into Force
4 This Order comes into force on June 18, 1998.
